Honda was the first company to sell a hybrid vehicle, the Insight model. This two passenger model was very fuel efficient but had limited success in the market and is no longer sold. In 2003 Honda began offering a Civic hybrid and has continued to do so for all model years up to the 2008 model. Honda also sold a hybrid Accord model from 2005 to 2007 but dropped the hybrid option for the 2008 model year due to low sales.
Honda has announced that it will begin selling a dedicated new design compact hybrid in 2009 which will be much lower in cost than a Civic and very fuel efficient.
Performance A number of fleets have purchased the Civic with fuel performance varying from the vehicles rating.
