They achieve a 35% to 40% reduction in fuel use, depending on route and drivecycle. The hybrids are a mix of diesel/electric series, gas/electric series, and most recently, gas/electric parallel. (See the hybrid basics page for an explanation of series vs parallel.) Purolator plans to continue adding Hybrid Electric Vehicles to their fleet in the coming years, although no specific number has been announced. The data below are for some of the original hybrid vans that Purolator was operating. We will post updated data as soon as it becomes available.

As of Feb 09, Purolator Courier operates 154 hybrid step vans in its delivery fleet of class 4 type trucks operating in Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. 105 of the 154 are an Azure Dynamics design based on a Ford E-450 chassis, whereas earlier models were built on the Workhorse chassis. 
New hybrid technologies are emerging such as Chrysler’s Sprinter plug-in hybrid that is in a demonstration program in 2008. This technology has the promise of substantially reducing fuel use and emissions in its duty cycle. Survey
