Daimler-Benz, the German company that markets the Mercedes brand, has had extensive research programs underway on hybrids across its various product lines including cars, trucks and buses. It has announced that in 2009 it will begin selling two hybrid models in Europe and North America. The S400 model will be the first production vehicle to use a Lithium Ion battery. The ML450 SUV model will use the Two Mode hybrid system that has been developed jointly with GM and BMW. No performance reports are yet available on these models.
