The technology is also evolving. Different manufacturers are using different approaches and the technology platforms are widening. These range from plug-in hybrids, to diesel/electric hybrids operating on biodiesel, to hydrogen fuel cell based hybrids operating a gasoline engine on E85 ethanol blends. As well, large trucks are also now entering the market with hybrid systems.
